Kensington Wrist Rest

Kensington's name comes up in nearly every wrist rest recommendation you'll find, and two products in particular keep appearing: the Memory Foam Pro and the Duo Gel.

Both sit in the premium price segment, and both have real fans.

We used each one daily for 6 weeks. Here's which one is worth the price, and for whom.

Memory Foam Pro

The Memory Foam Pro uses a single layer of medium-density memory foam encased in a washable neoprene cover. The foam density hits the right balance — soft enough to conform to wrist contours, firm enough that it doesn't flatten completely under sustained weight.

The washable cover is the standout feature. After 6 weeks, a quick hand wash restored the cover to near-new condition. Comparable wrist rests without washable covers show visible grime accumulation and require replacement rather than cleaning.

At the end of 6 weeks, the foam had compressed approximately 15% at the primary wrist contact point. This is normal and within the range where support is still effective. The Memory Foam Pro should remain functional for 3-4 years of daily use before replacement is warranted.

Duo Gel

The Duo Gel uses a dual-layer design: a firmer gel base for support and a softer gel surface for comfort. The surface layer conforms quickly to wrist shape; the base prevents complete compression.

In a warm room (25°C), the gel surface was noticeably cooler to the touch than the memory foam. After extended use, the gel stays cooler because it conducts heat away from the skin rather than insulating it the way foam does.

The main durability concern for gel wrist rests is cracking. We observed no cracking during the 6-week test, but longer-term user reports indicate the gel surface can develop hairline cracks at the primary contact point after 3+ years of daily use. Function is unaffected by minor cracking, but it becomes unsightly.

Which to Choose

Choose Memory Foam Pro if:

  • You type in a climate-controlled environment
  • Durability over 4+ years is important
  • You want the softest feel

Choose Duo Gel if:

  • You work in a warm environment or warm climate
  • You prefer a cooler-feeling surface
  • You want dual-layer firmness progression

Verdict

Both are among the best wrist rests available. The Memory Foam Pro has a slight edge in long-term durability; the Duo Gel has a slight edge in warm climates. Either is a sound investment for daily office use.
