Step 3: if the oil is still tacky after 24 hours in good conditions, the coat was too thick. Wipe the surface firmly with a cloth dampened with mineral spirits to remove the uncured excess. Allow to dry and assess.
Step 4: in extreme cases (oil applied very thickly and remained tacky for days), wipe thoroughly with mineral spirits, allow to dry completely, then reapply a very thin coat.
