Why Headphone Storage Position Matters

Headphone headbands contain a spring steel or plastic spring mechanism that applies clamping force. Stored in compressed positions for extended periods (laying flat under a monitor, hanging over a chair arm), the spring mechanism can deform — reducing clamping force or causing asymmetric clamping.

Correct storage: hanging from the headband arch on a stand, with the headband at its natural expanded position. The clamping spring is fully relieved.

Incorrect storage: placed face-down on a desk (compresses headband), hanging from one earcup (torques the headband asymmetrically), balanced on a monitor corner (concentrates stress at one point).
